The City of Oakland offers five fenced dog play areas in the city. They are located in Hardy Park (Claremont Avenue under the freeway), Mosswood Park, Grove Shafter Park (at MacArthur and Martin Luther King Junior Way), Jefferson Park, and Joaquin Miller Park. These are the only parks in Oakland other than East Bay Regional Parks where dogs are allowed. In all other City parks, dogs are prohibited, even if they are on a leash. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission is studying the issue of how to best accommodate dogs in Oakland’s parks. There are many factors that need to be considered. We’d like to hear from you.
