Oakland already has a Sunshine Ordinance and is required to comply with the California Public Records Act. This should be sufficient to ensure open and transparent government. The problem is, Oakland violates the laws and procedures on a regular basis. Requests get lost or ignored, or the City takes way too long to respond. What can we do to get Oakland to comply with existing policies/procedures, or to change policies/procedures to ensure compliance?
